Each year, Stay Smart Online hosts a week of events to help Australians stay safe while online – whether at home, at work or at school – and to understand simple steps we can take to protect our personal and financial information online.
The 2014 Stay Smart Online Week is the seventh consecutive annual event conducted by the Australian Government in partnership with industry, the community sector and all levels of government.
This year’s theme – ‘On The Go’ – reflects the importance of staying safe and secure online while using mobile devices to social network, bank, shop and navigate the internet.
We also highly recommend subscribing to the Stay Smart Online Security Alerts. The June 2014 newsletter highlights a number of vulnerabilities discovered this month. These include some high profile sites like eBay, Bit.ly link shortening, Dropbox and also new phishing scams targeting WhatsApp and PayPal users. Apple device and Mac users should be aware that they may be targeted by hackers who lock you out of your device before demanding payment of a ransom. Affected users should reset their Apple ID password.
For nearly 15 years Shred-X Document Destruction has been the leader in secure destruction services. We assist organisations in complying with the Privacy Act 1988 and its Amendments providing tailored services to thousands of commercial sites and households across Australia.
In addition to destroying documents we also securely dispose of eWaste including mobile phones and hard drives. Destruction is proven to be the only 100% secure way to destroy data from electronic devices permanently. That means physically shredding the device and disposing of the tiny particles that remain.
