Hunt & Hunt Lawyers have released a comprehensive article on how the Privacy Commissioner’s powers will change come March 12, 2014.

privacy-law-reform“The Privacy Commissioner, Timothy Pilgrim has indicated that he will not be taking a ‘softly softly’ approach in exercising these new powers.”

The article goes onto say that the current emphasis of the Privacy Commissioner is assist organisations in complying with the Privacy Act rather than punish those that do not. This however is likely to change after March 12, 2014 when large civil penalties can be issued for ‘serious and repeated interferences with privacy’.
