Primarily celebrated in the United States, Canada and Europe, Data Privacy Day is an international awareness day to provide education about information privacy. The OAIC have used this day to remind Australians of the forthcoming implementation of new privacy laws.
“The new laws will apply to Australian Government agencies, private sector businesses and not-for profit organisations covered by the Privacy Act 1988.”
Shred-X will participate in Privacy Awareness Week (4–10 May 2014) in an effort to educate Australians to be more aware of their privacy rights.
