BRISBANE QLD, AUGUST 15TH 2017

Commercial waste and recycling industries have recently come under fire for their unsustainable waste removal and storage practices throughout Australia. Most notably, during the ABC Four Corners report Trashed: the dirty truth about your rubbish.

This comes at a time where community awareness of environment and sustainability are at an all-time high and pressure is building for businesses and Governments to come to the party with more sustainable ways to dispose of waste and subsequently reduce their carbon footprint and contribution to landfill.

Shred-X Secure Destruction’s General Manager Van Karas reiterated the importance of regulation and reform within these industries and notes Shred-X’s commitment to sustainable and ethical recycling of its by-products.

Shred-X provides NAID AAA and ISO Certified secure destruction of both paper and e-waste such as sensitive paper documents, hard drives, mobile phones, computers and more.

“We encourage all businesses to securely destroy their documents and e-waste for their own security and to protect against fraud and identity theft. Using a certified provider like Shred-X is both secure AND sustainable,” Karas explains.

He continues, “Shred-X is now able to recover 98.5% of the material collected which is then provided to Australian Paper, where it is pulped and ultimately turned into products like Reflex brand recycled paper. It’s a cycle that aids in protecting Australia’s future in both security and sustainability.”

Following the Four Corners report, NWRIC, a new body working to create a cohesive national vision for Australia’s waste management and recycling industry, issued a statement advocating State and Commonwealth regulators to re-engage with the industry to solve contemporary challenges.

The body continued to outline that despite the report, Australia’s national resource recovery rate of over 50% puts us well ahead of many OECD counterparts, including the US and Canada.

As a member of NWRIC, Shred-X Secure Destruction takes pride in its commitment to sustainable and ethical recycling at all eight of its NAID AAA and ISO Certified locations throughout Australia.
